Foundational truths, crucial to true fulfillment and joy, rediscovered in the Reformation, impact the entire ministry of this church.
The centrality, authority and inerrancy of the Bible:
Because we believe that God has revealed Himself and His salvation through Jesus Christ in the Bible, we endeavor to saturate our lives and ministry with the Bible. The Bible is our sole and final authority in things pertaining to life and faith. We are committed to expository, systematic, worshipful proclamation of its truths and of the person and work of Jesus Christ at this church, in our lives, and around the world.
Our History
East Parkway Church is affiliated with the Wesleyan denomination, which is an evangelical, Protestant denomination. We were planted by Arcade Wesleyan church in 1982. The Wesleyan denomination’s roots are in the Great Awakening, when, in the 1740s, a mighty movement of God swept England and America largely through the labors of John Wesley, Charles Wesley, and George Whitefield. John Wesley’s followers came to be known as Methodists due to Wesley’s emphasis on practical (“methodical”) personal holiness. As a result of the movement to abolish slavery, the Wesleyan Methodist Church of America was born in New York in 1843; in 1968, the name was changed to the Wesleyan Church.
Our denomination has almost 5,000 churches worldwide with 1,100 in the U.S. and Canada (divided into 38 districts) and missions endeavors in more than 70 different countries. Like this church, the Wesleyan denomination is committed to Jesus Christ and the Great Commission.
